A Plan!
23/12/2013 11:30Almost a year since my first triathlon, my kids have grown up so much, I have lost almost a stone (about 7kg), changed jobs, moved house, bought a carbon TT bike and now it’s time to start planning for a new year.
The main event for the first half of 2014 will be the Ironman 70.3 Putrajaya, Malaysia in April. I still have plenty of time to prepare for it, it’s not too far away – about a 3 hour drive I think, and my dear friend Alex lives very close by so we get to see her too! The boys will love that!
In February I’ll do the MetaSprint Aquathlon. I really enjoyed this event last year. It’s at Sentosa on the beach and has a real holiday, party atmosphere! I have also signed up my Mum and my husband this year for the super sprint distance. I really hope they enjoy it!
March will be busy starting on the 2nd with the 2XU Compression Run half marathon, which has great prizes and very cool gear in the race bag! Then the second event in the MetaSprint series is the duathlon followed perhaps by the Kapas - Marang International Swimathon - a 6.5km open water swim from a Malaysian island back to the mainland.
Unfortunately the Ironman 70.3 Putrajaya is on the same day as the MetaSprint series triathlon. I won my age group for this event last year, so it’s a favourite already… perhaps I’ll be back in 2015?
We'll be going to Bintan in May for a olympic distance triathlon. Should be nice and hilly and will make a nice change to the familiar routes of Singapore!
Next up is the Trifactor series, a 3km swim in May, 60km bike in June, 30km run in August and then the olympic distance triathlon in September. Hopefully I won’t be able to do the Trifactor triathlon because it’s on the same day as the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Mont Tremblant, Canada. If I don’t manage to get a place in Mont Tremblant, I’ll be at the start line for the Trifactor triathlon on 7th September!
Another one I haven’t quite made my mind up about yet is the Ironman Langkawi. This would be my first full Ironman race. What do you think? Should I try? 3.8km swim, 180km bike and then a full 42.2km marathon? It’s on my “40 things to do before 40 list”.
The date for the Newton Challenge has not been confirmed yet, but I think this will be my last long run before ‘perhaps’ running the Standard Chartered Marathon in December…
